Engaged Encounter is a weekend where an atmosphere is created for each couple planning marriage to concentrate exclusively on one another, free of the tensions, pressures and interruptions of the world.

It is a very private weekend specifically designed to give the couple an opportunity to talk honestly and intensively about their prospective lives together… their strengths and their weaknesses; their desires, ambitions, and goals; their attitudes about money, sex, children, and family; their role in the Church and society…in a one-to-one discussion.

It is for all couples planning marriage who desire a richer, fuller life together. Marriage preparation can never be too good. EE is designed to deepen and enrich your relationship with each other. Engaged Encounters are held several times a year in the Knoxville area. The weekend begins Friday evening and concludes Sunday afternoon.

What happens at the encounter?

Two married couples and a Priest alternate sharing from their own experiences. Each couple is then encouraged to talk privately with each other on all aspects of married life…always from the point of view of their own relationship.

Meals and Mass provide an opportunity for you to meet other engaged couples. The weekend is predominated by time communicating with your future spouse.
All rooms are double occupancy with same-sex roommates assigned.

The cost of $289.00 includes meals, rooms, and materials. Should the cost be a problem contact your parish Priest. Engaged Encounter will work with your priest to accommodate/facilitate your attendance.  (Note:  Couples will receive a notarized certificate after completion of the weekend that provides a $60.00 discount on their Marriage License in the State of Tennessee, if used within a year of the Engaged Encounter weekend.)

On-site check-in starts at 6:30 pm on Friday night and ends at nominally 7:15 pm — we ask that all couples check-in by then, if at all possible. The weekend starts at 7:30 pm on Friday night and usually ends before 12:00 noon on Sunday.
